A major re-launch for a busy dance school called for starting a big buzz.

This campaign included 30 unique pages for a complex new multi-media Wordpress-powered website, a custom Twitter background, business cards, post cards, gift certificates, buttons, t-shirts and more. I cooked up the look and feel for each piece, designed multi-purpose templates and grids, sourced and briefed a web developer and handled the project management between the client, developer, printer, videographer, etc.

The albums were conceived as a pair and released several months apart. We wanted them to look like they belonged together so we settled on a look and feel and chose to focus on the sea and the air. For the second album, we experimented with silver foil stamping and were really pleased with the detail and production value achieved.

A gourmet bake shop needed an identity, promotional materials and website to showcase their custom baked goods and beautiful artisinal wedding cakes.

To help Sweetwares stand out amongst the competition, I wanted to emphasize the client’s meticulous skill, sense of style, and enthusiasm for customizing her special occasion baking to the clients’ needs.

Sweetwares’ brides-to-be demographic is bombarded by targeted advertising from competitive businesses. We needed to make sure that anyone who visited the website would know why this bake shop was different from the rest. Photography from Sweetwares’ portfolio and glowing testimonials were used liberally to make sure visitors to the site knew they were seeing something special.

A fun-loving couple wanted a unique and playful invitation for their rock ‘n roll wedding.

This invitation set was inspired by love, rock ‘n roll, the carnival, and the couple’s very cute dog. Playful copy lent itself to quirky, spirited typesetting and an illustrative layout where I featured a few tributes to the bride and groom. We printed a small offset run on heavy linen stock with stunning results that guests were thrilled to receive in the mail. Extra invitations made for a cute graphic background for photos!

The happy couple wanted a sweet and stylish invitation set for their elegant summer wedding.

The bride’s inspiration came from romantic, blush-pink flower arrangements, but she left it up to me to come up with something beautiful. We were planning to print letterpress, so I used a digital technique on my hand-rendered illustrations to create subtlety and shades in the flowers, to be printed in one colour. The results gave us incredible detail and gradation not usually found in letterpress printing.

I wanted to emphasize the production process for my own promotional material so I chose a hearty natural chipboard and had the artwork screen printed. I also wanted to create pieces that felt valuable as objects with a small budget; a common challenge for any designer. Like my clients’ materials too, these pieces needed to stand out in a crowd.

I limited myself to two spot colours and featured knock-outs for more visual interest. I think the results are playful, restrained and memorable.

The happy couple wanted a luxe and elegant invitation suite for their romantic Autumn wedding.

The bride was drawn to pretty filigree designs and pocket-styled invitations with varying layers and textures. I began by carefully creating the delicate line work which then inspired our choices for type and stock. Each piece was customized for standard envelope and folder sizes, and to create a stair-step effect for the pieces within the pocket.

The production of this 9-piece suite was a long-distance collaboration with clients and printers in Brooklyn.
